to the units and parking spaces. It was a delight.

We were impressed with the beauty and the serenity of the imme- diate area. Well, the entire island is beautiful for that matter. There are activities for any taste, from hikes, to photographing, to kayaking, to bicy- cling, to fishing, to gourmet dining, to wine tasting, to exploring historical sites, to visiting an oyster “farm”, etc. It is a delightful place to visit. There is an airport adjacent to the resort.

We found walking around the har- bor area quite an education. Many people own large boats that they dock at Roche Harbor. And, there were boats from throughout the world as evidenced by their names and origin painted on them. As non-boat people, we were astonished by the size, gran- deur, and quantity of the sea going vessels. Clearly, many people stop at Roche Harbor to refuel, pick up a few supplies, and to spend pleasant hours at the Roche Harbor resort eating and drinking.

My favorite experience there was our visit to Lime Kiln State Park. It is a whale watching spot on the west coast and a lighthouse is there. A group of students was studying there when we visited. It offered an excep-

tional vista though we saw no whales that day.

There is a small grocery store at the resort. We had taken food so we were fine cooking in our unit. We also enjoyed several good breakfasts at the

Lime Kiln Café on the pier at Roche Harbor Resort. There are several gift shops there and signs point in the di- rections of several historical sites. Don’t miss the mausoleum!

We partook of wine tasting at the San Juan Winery. We visited down- town Friday Harbor, the County seat, with all of its shops and restaurants. We hiked the grounds of the resort and visited various points of interest. There are breathtaking views from many places around the island. My husband especially enjoyed the landings of the seaplanes and the evening formal Re- tirement of the Colors, or flag lower- ing, just prior to sunset. We also strolled the formal gardens

I strongly recommend this desti- nation. There is plenty for all ages and it comes with a beautiful unit and a glimpse of a wonderful lifestyle on the island and on the amazing boats we saw. For a glimpse, check out www.rocheharbor.com.
