A pupil completing his five-year primary school period education is awarded a "Completion Certificate" and promoted to a secondary school without an exam. On the certificate, the areas that the pupil is interested in and is good at are recorded.
The curricula, textbooks, workbooks, teacher's books, teaching methods and techniques, measurement and assessment are carried out within the understanding of pupil-centered and constructive education in order to increase the quality of education and to reach the specified objectives. Personnel and material development programs are implemented within this understanding as well. Information and communication technology classes equipped with equipment are established in basic education schools.
Secondary school is a part of Basic Education and serves the pupils 12 to 15 years of age. The pupil is given an orientation assistance towards Multi-Program Modern High Schools in line with his interests, inclinations, success and skills at the end of Secondary School Period.

Educational programs at the Secondary School Period aims at providing the pupil:
to grow up aesthetically, morally, socially, personally and technically, with necessary skills to overcome personal, social and economic problems and synthesize them, with communication skills in his mother tongue, to develop his critical literacy skills to make use of computer technology consciously, to acquaint himself with a range of different art and sport forms, express his artistic talents, to establish friendly relations and communication with the individuals of Turkey and other neighboring countries, to adopt some common values of humankind such as peace, democracy, justice and equality and to develop an awareness of the contribution of Ataturk revolutions to these values, progressively to form his professional approaches, to become aware of his potential in terms of skills, interests and talents, to learn how to learn and appreciate continuing learning, with learning environments to use a second language apart from English in accordance with the skills specified in the "European Language Portfolio".
