The lesson centers on the only German U-boat  ever to be captured by the United States during WWII.

Students will understand the significance of submarine warfare during WWII and the importance of the capturing of the U-505.

Students should have an understanding of the causes of WWII and the events in the early years of the world.

Learning Activities (Procedure)

Day 1:  

Anticipatory Set

Have students create a KWL chart writing down what they Know about submarine warfare during WWII, and What they would like to know.

Day 2:

Procedure

1.

Pass out student note taking guides.

2.

Have students access the website and complete the Learning Module entitled WWII Submarine Warfare: U-505.

3.

If there is time, have students navigate the site for The Museum of Science and Industry.

4.

Have students complete their “L” portion of their KWL chart.
