Action Requested: Reviewand consider formal response of the Board of Supervisors to the findings and recommendations of the 2006-07 Placer County Grand Jury -BurtonCreek Facility Annual Inspectionand authorize the Chairmanto sign and submit the response to the PresidingJudge of the Superior Court.
Background: On June 11.2007 the Placer County Grand Jury released its Comprehensive Final Reportfor 200607. The Report indudesfindings and recommendations relatedto the annual inspection of the Burton Creek Facility. Your Board is identied as a respondent to the Reportwhich requires a formal reply to the findings and recommendationsof the Grand Jury. On behalf of your Board, staff has completed a formal response for your review, consideration and approval. A copy of the FinalReport and the detailed response is attached to this memorandum. Also attachedfor your information and reference are the responsesfrom the Sheriff and the Director of Facili Services, also identified as respondentsto the Report.
Summary - FindinasI Recommendations: The Grand Jury finds the Burton Creek Facilityto be inadequatefor its current purpose
and function and it should be replaced. A replacementfacility is cunently inthe planningphase and a new facility should be completed by 2010 -2011. Other recommendations include improvements in access to the building and interior renovatis to upgrade the break room for dispatch staff. As indicated in the formal response these recommendations have been implemented. The Report also recommendsa "fast track" construction schedulefor the replacementfacility. The replacementfacility may not be completed before2010 -2011due to the nature of a
major construction project and facility of this
and its location inthe Tahoe area.
