Pre-admission information. Prior to admitting a student to a distance learning course or program, the college will provide students with information about the college and its programs, courses, costs, and related policies and requirements. The college:

Ascertains by records and/or personal review that the student is qualified to be admitted to the program.

Informs prospective students about access to technologies, technical competencies needed for the distance learning delivery mode, how to accomplish interaction with faculty and fellow students given the distance learning delivery mode, the estimated time required to complete the course or program, and other support services available to distance learning students.

Assists prospective students in understanding learning expectations and the nature and potential challenges of the distance learning delivery mode.

Provides career counseling.

Student Services. The college recognizes that required services need to be available and accessible to distance learning students. These services may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Admissions

Enrollment/Registration

Financial aid and scholarships

Secure payment arrangements  

Bookstore services

Academic advising

Tutoring

Academic progress and completion support

Library resources appropriate to the program including online access to resources

Learning enhancement and remediation support including preparation in information research and access techniques

Disabilities/differing abilities support

Counseling

Grievance procedures

Placement

Technical Support. The college recognizes that appropriate technical support needs to be available during evenings and weekends as well as during the college’s traditional hours of operation.

2) Course Selection and Curriculum Development

A.

Instructional mode. The college identifies which instructional mode is most suitable to a distance learning experience based on the educational aims of the program, prospective students’ access to various types of teaching media, and the relative costs to providers and students.

B.

Learning materials. The college assures that learning materials are current, relevant, and appropriately funded.
