Introduction to Electronic Service Agent for i5/OS V5R3

Electronic Service Agent for IBM i5/OS V5R3 is integrated into the base i5/OS V5R3 operating system. It is no longer a separately installed LPO product.

Electronic Service Agent provides an automatic hardware problem reporting function that predicts and prevents hardware errors by early detection of potential problems, downloads fixes, and automatically submits problems to IBM when appropriate. During automatic hardware problem reporting, supplemental system service information will be sent and made available to IBM support centers to aid in problem resolution. The same service information is available to be viewed with prior registration of an IBM ID.

Migration Information

For customers upgrading from prior OS/400 releases, the i5/OS V5R3 will migrate existing Service Agent settings from the previous release.

Helpful Information Checklist

Simplified activation will be easier knowing the following information before starting simplified activation.

  • You must have these required products installed on the ~ i5. If not, Service Agent will not function properly.

    • 5722SS1 – Option 34 (OS/400 - Digital Certificate Manager);

    • 5722AC3 (Crypto Access Provider 128-bit);

    • 5722JC1 (IBM Toolbox for Java)
