The number one reason why people don’t exercise is that they don’t have time. At least that’s what they tell them- selves .

Between getting to and from work, balancing respon- sibilities and having time for yourself, there’s little left over for workouts.

With the holiday season fast approaching, your busy schedule is sure to get even busier. There will be parties, shopping, decorating, cooking and family gatherings. It’s no wonder that exercise quickly takes a backseat to holiday

You don’t have to succumb to weight gain this holiday season. Escape the time crunch excuse in three easy steps:

Step One: Schedule Your Workouts: If you treat your exercise time with the impor- tance of a work meeting, then you would never skip a workout and you would be in amazing shape.

It starts with you com- mitting to a revised schedule with a set exercise time.

First-Time Homebuyer Tax Credit Extended & Expanded for Repeat Buyers!

The much anticipated ex- tension to the home buyer tax credit has finally been approved. The Senate’s vote resulted in a 98–0 win and it passed handily in the house as well. President Obama will sign it into law.

First-time home buyers have been eligible for tax cred- its of up to $8,000 since last January as part of this year’s economic stimulus package. The newly backed program will expand the credit to include existing home owners.

Under the revised program, those who have owned a home for at least five years will be able to apply for tax credits of up to $6,500 when they purchase their next home. To qualify, buyers will have to sign a purchase agreement by April 30, 2010 and close by June 30.

The maximum purchase price on the home will be $800,000 with vacation homes

not eligible. Income limita- tions are $125,000 for single tax payers and $225,000 for joint filers.

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) have been lobbying hard for the extension and expansion of the tax credit. NAR claims that so far, about 1.4 million first-time homebuy- ers have qualified for the pro- gram and they estimated that 350,000 of these buyers would not have otherwise purchased.

These new guidelines will help many buyers in our south central Bergen County area. All combined – the tax cred- its, reduced home prices, and historically low interest rates make the total cost of buying a home now the lowest it’s been in years – creating an incred- ible opportunity for you and your family!

Step Two: Get the Most from Each Minute: A great workout can take place in under an hour, when done correctly. The idea is to burn more calo- ries each minute. This is done through short, intense bursts of exercise. Use the following three tips to bring your routine up to the next level:

Be Unstable: Use your en- tire body, and target your core, by performing exercises that engage stabilizing muscles. To do this, use an exercise ball, a balance board, a balance disk, or you could simply stand on one leg.

Add Resistance: The more resistance that you incorporate with your routine translates into higher intensity and more calories burned. Some ideas for adding resistance include: car- rying dumbbells while doing lunges, wearing a weighted vest while walking or jogging, or putting a weight between your feet while doing leg raises.

Use Intervals: Interval training is an amazing tool for creating short, yet effective

workouts. Interval training is simply alternating between dif- ferent short bursts of activity.

Here’s an example: Let’s say you want to focus on your legs and abs and to also get an effective cardiovascular work- out. This would be a great inter- val routine for your goals:

· Lunge while curling dumbbells, 15-20 repetitions

· 30 seconds of intense cardio: sprint, jump rope, or jumping jacks

· Squat while pressing dumbbells overhead, 15-20 repetitions

· 30 seconds of intense cardio: sprint, jump rope, or jumping jacks

· Crunches on an exercise ball, 15-20 repetitions

· Leg raises off the end of an exercise bench, 15-20 repetitions
