In its “rest” position within each pole, the wiper is making contact with its NC contact. Example: Pole #1, terminal 7 is touching terminal 1; pole #2, terminal 8 is touching terminal 2; pole #3, terminal 9 is touching terminal 3. Remember: the three poles are not connected to each other. When 24 volts is applied to the coil (terminals A & B), the relay will be turned on, or energized. Once the relay has been energized, the coil will develop a magnetic field. This will pull the wipers in each pole away from their NC contacts and cause them instead to touch the NO contacts. Refer to figure 3. Example: pole #1, terminal 7 is touching terminal 4; pole #2, terminal 8 is touching terminal 5; pole #3, terminal 9 is touching terminal 6.
