PTO Meeting Schedule

Please join us for the remaining PTO meetings which will be held as listed below.  The meetings begin at 6:30pm in the Media Center at the school.  All are welcome and childcare will be provided.  Please note that these dates are subject to change:

Tuesday, April 3        Tuesday, May 1Tuesday, June 5

Nominations for 2007-2008 PTO Officers

The PTO is now accepting nominations for the 2007-2008 officer positions.  Nominations will be accepted until the end of the April 3 rd meeting.  You may submit your nomination in writing in the office to the PTO mailbox or you may make it at the April meeting.  Voting will take place by secret ballot during the May 1st  PTO meeting.  The following is a list of criteria for each position:

President or Co-Presidents:

Oversee all PTO committees, functions, and activities.  

Serve as the tiebreaker in the event of a tie vote within a committee.

Be accessible to the Principal for special projects and meetings.  

Plan agendas for PTO meetings and preside over meetings.  

The President or Co-Presidents may call for a special meeting of the Executive Board whenever deemed necessary.

Prior PTO experience is required.  

Vice-President:

Assist the President or Co-Presidents in any and all aspects of his/her job.  

Prior PTO experience is recommended.

Treasurer:

Maintain accurate records of all money transactions for the PTO.

Pay all invoices in a timely fashion.

Reconcile bank statements monthly.

Produce a detailed monthly statement for each PTO meeting.

Prior PTO experience is recommended.

Secretary:

Take attendance and minutes at all PTO monthly meetings and Executive Board meetings.

Type and make copies of and distribute minutes.

Notify the newspaper of upcoming meetings and events.

No prior PTO experience required.

Revisions of PTO By-Laws to be Voted on

The PTO by-laws committee has finished work on revisions to the PTO by-laws.  The changes will be discussed and voted on at the April PTO meeting.  If you would like to review the revisions, you may take a look at the PTO By-Laws section of our school website under the www.middletownschools.org site.  A copy of the By-Laws is also hanging on the PTO bulletin board in the school office.  

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration for the 2006-2007 school year will take place Tuesday and Wednesday, May 1st and 2nd, 2007.  Children who will be 5 years old on or before January 1, 2008 may be registered.  Please call Mrs. Anton to make an appointment at 347-2579.

Celebration of South America

CMTs are over!! It’s time to celebrate!  This Friday, March 30th, the PTO is hosting a celebration of South America!  The doors will open at 6:30pm to many wonderful events!  In the gym there will be a soccer obstacle competition as well as the Oddfellows Playhouse Stilting, Juggling and Acrobatics Demonstration.  We will also have a demonstration of Brazilian Martial Arts, also known as Capoera.  In the auditorium there will be dancing demonstrations.  Also be on the look out for poetry reading, arts and crafts, a bake sale, the basket raffle, a checkers championship, a piñata event, and a stand supplied by the Rainforest Café.  Admission is $2 per person or no more than  $10 per family.  Basket raffle tickets are $1 each or 3 for $2.  All children must be accompanied by an adult – No Drop Offs will be admitted. You may still purchase tickets in advance by using the form included in this newsletter.  

The Annual Curriculum Fair to take

Place in April

The Snow School teachers and students are getting ready to show us their stuff!!  Our annual school curriculum fair is coming up on Thursday, April 12 from 6-7pm.  Each grade is preparing special projects or displays to show what they have been working on.  The fourth graders will present ‘Meet the Experts’ again in the gym.  The first graders are preparing a play which they will perform for their families and any other interested members of our Snow School community at 5:30pm.  After you have toured the classrooms and gym, you are invited to join us for refreshments in the cafeteria.

BoxTop Update

The kids did a terrific job this year bringing in Box Tops.  Out of 1,116 schools in Connecticut that participate in this program, Snow School ranked number 108!!  With some of the funds the PTO recently purchased items for the kids to play with during recess.  A few of the items include jump ropes, footballs, basketballs, Frisbees, and soccer balls.  We are hoping to purchase a larger item to
