The fastest-growing class of insurance was Liability, where premium income rose by 45.8% to € 1,434.2 million. At 24.5%, Liability is now the largest class in the Gerling Global Re Group’s portfolio.

Life reinsurance business also produced gratifying growth again, boosting revenues by € 270.2 million to € 1,414.2 million. The percent- age of total premium volume generated by this class rose to 24.2% (p.y. 22.0%).

The sharpest decline was seen in Accident business. Gross premium income decreased by 37.1% to € 216.3 million. Premium volume was also marginally lower than in the preceding year in the Fire, Engineering, Legal Expenses and Other insurance classes.

Overall, earned premiums for own account increased by € 540.2 million to € 4,841.9 million (p.y. € 4,301.7 million) in the year under review. The retention rate climbed to 85.0% (p.y. 84.2%).
