Target to oak-dominated woodland within key areas, preferably on sloping ground in well-wooded landscapes to maximise chances of providing the woodland characteristics favoured by this species.
Increase the extent or improve the quality of nest sites
Maintain open visibility within the under
storey and shrub layer by restricting
bramble and bracken development and creating or maintaining an open field layer through appropriate grazing regimes. This needs to be balanced with the encouragement of future canopy trees through retaining or protecting saplings where necessary.
Increase the extent or improve the quality of foraging habitat
Encourage crown development of individual trees through thinning of the canopy.
