Appendix 3

Appendix 3 Felling licences

To help protect Wales’s trees, a felling licence from Forestry Commission Wales is required to fell trees. It is an offence to fell trees without a licence, if an exemption does not apply, depending on the following:

  • location

  • type of tree work

  • volume and diameter

  • other permissions

  • legal and statutory requirements.

For more information on all of the above, including Tree Preservation Orders, Hedgerow Regulations and Sites of Special Scientific Interest visit the Forestry Commission Wales website at: www.forestry.gov.uk with links to Wales and other associated sites.

Land Information Search

The Land Information Search (LIS) is an easy to use online map that is used to search for information about designations or features on a chosen land area. It is very useful for researching the land you want to include in a grant or felling application before you apply. Access is through the Forestry Commission Wales website at: www.forestry.gov.uk
