Arthur “Ace” Matthews, 77, associate professor emeritus, died Friday, April 16, 2006, in Willits, Calif. He was a long-time member of the speech department in the School of Liberal Studies; and general manager of the WVSS campus radio station, which went on the air in 1970. He retired from UW-Stout in May 1990.

Jeanne Salyer, 84, of Menomonie, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at her home. She had a bachelor’s degree in home economics from Kent State University and a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin- Madison. She taught clothing and design classes at Stout from 1952 to 1972.

Glen R. Schuknecht, 80, of Hudson, UW-Stout emeritus director of planning and information management, died Sunday, November 20, 2005, at his residence, after a courageous battle with cancer. He retired from UW-Stout in 1990 after a 20-year career.

Frank Pershern, 73, of Menomonie, professor emeritus, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005. He joined the Marine Corps in 1951 and served in the Korean War as a Marine Night Fighter until 1954. He taught high school industrial arts in Drummond. He previously taught at Whitewater and Ball State in Muncie, Ind., before coming to Stout to teach industrial arts and materials and processes. He retired in 1995.

John Vranak, 60, of Menomonie, former director of the Product Development concentration in industrial technology at UW-Stout, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at his home. Vranak served in the U.S.

Marine Corp from 1963 to 1966 in Vietnam. He began his career at Stout as a student in 1967, and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Industrial Education in 1971 and 1972. He then took a teaching position at Arrowhead High School in Hartland, where he remained for seven years before returning to Stout in 1979 to teach in the Graphic Communications Department.

Myrtis Petersen Whydotski, 85, of Menomonie, UW-Stout faculty emeritus, died Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at Myrtle Werth Hospital. She graduated from the Stout Institute in 1942 and taught home economics in Whitehall; Beloit; Wausau; and Windsor, Colo. After receiving her master’s degree from Stout in 1968, she taught in the School of Home Economics until her retirement in 1982. She was active in many community organizations, and served as adviser to the local Phi Upsilon Omicron chapter for many years.
