Born in Honolulu, Hawai’i, like many children Gordon Sasaki became interested in art at an early age, first exhibiting a flower painting at the age of 10 at the Los Angeles County Children’s Museum. Later, while studying art in college, Sasaki injured his spinal cord in an automobile accident and has since used a wheelchair for mobility. Currently living in New York City, Sasaki uses a variety of materials to explore multiple aspects of the body and its representation. His work has been exhibited internationally in Belgium, Japan, Spain, and Germany, and throughout the United States. He is a recipient of awards and grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the Puffin Foundation, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the Hawai’i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.
