Born in Connecticut in 1960, photographer John Dugdale began experimenting with a toy camera at age 11. As a young adult, he had four images published in Interview magazine, and went on to cultivate a successful career in commercial photography. He began focusing on fine art photography after cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis reduced his vision to 20% in one eye. Dugdale is known for his ethereal, intimate images, often produced in blue cyanotype or warm sepia albumen prints. His photographs have been exhibited in New York, San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., and hang in several private and museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
