Scott Zwiren studied art at Colgate University before earning his bachelor of fine arts in 1986 from the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, where he studied film animation and playwriting. In 1996 Zwiren published God Head (Dalkey Archives Press), for which he received the Barnes and Noble Discovery Award for best debut novel. He is a member of the Bridge Group Artists and his work has been shown in the Bridge Program exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (2006–07). Zwiren, who has bipolar disorder, received a Grandiva Award nomination for The Snailman (2003), an epic five- foot-long canvas that he completed over the span of a decade.
