Bilbao Take your time for training!

“Today we can say that Bilbao has its third wonder to be added to Guggenheim Museum and the suspended bridge: the Scott Warren Iberica’s Training centre.” With these words John Corry, General Manager

of Sherwin-Williams Automotive Europe (SWAE), kicked off the opening of the Scott Warren Iberica’s (SWI) Training Centre in Bilbao on October 17th. Beside him, the host of the ceremony Adolfo Lopez. In front of them more then thirty distributors coming from the most important Spanish cities.

“There is no doubt” Lopez said “that we are immersed in a crisis on a worldwide scale but we see this as an opportunity for us to become even stronger then today: compared to the main brands, SW prices are highly competitive; while, when it comes to lower priced brands, there is really no comparison in terms of quality. In this situation our brand can attract a big market. Because of this economic situation we have to be cautious, but, at the same time, we have to be bold and take advantage of the opportunities, in order to come out reinforced. I do believe that thanks to our products and to our people, our future can be only very good. It is because we have faith in this that we decided to invest in this p r o j e c t .”

Each training session is designed to provide hands-on knowledge in a variety of areas that are of direct interest to the automotive painting professional, that includes SWI’s technicians, distributors’ technicians,

SWAE and SWI have come a long way together since 1998. After many years of common investments, efforts, cooperation, this partnership is nowadays more valuable then ever. Currently there are more than 650 SW mixing machines running daily in Spain. Intensive job carried on, day by day, by Adolfo Lopez and his team allowed Sherwin-Williams to be the fourth brand in the car refinishing industry, with a market share around 15%. And nevertheless the economic crises all over the world, SWAE and SWI don’t even think to stop their growth in Spain.

The new building is composed of three areas: a colour room, a spray booth and an area dedicated to the preparation of car parts for training purposes. The new training centre opened in September 2008, and has proved to be a success, being booked up for several weeks ahead. What distributors like is a professional environment, personal dedication and, last but not least, a family atmosphere. And the combination of these three aspects is exactly the “secret” of SWAE and SWI success in Spain.

A couple of years ago, Sherwin- Williams’ motto was “Time is now”. Looking at the opening of SWI’s Training Centre we can confirm, without any doubt, that for Sherwin- Williams and its partner in Spain Time is really now!

Well done, Adolfo.
