training conducted by 2-1-1 staff. With regard to the relationship of local coalitions to the statewide 2-1-1 system, coalition members reported that 2-1-1- serves as a valuable interface for local coalition efforts. The ADRC coalitions also report one of the strengths of their work has been to create and update community resource information. They report that their local resource database development work addresses more specific, geographically sensitive information and tools for long term supports than that contained in the state 2-1-1- system. Examples of these more local initiatives include:

Recognizing that many community members are not able to access computer information and that others might be reluctant to call 2-1-1 despite the promise of anonymity, the Bath-Brunswick Coalition developed and distributed a targeted Directory of Commonly Requested Community Services for Elders and Disabled in their area, thereby providing another information source for access to services.

Franklin Resource Network (FRN) developed a local resource database available through the web, "The Community Connector." This robust information system was tested, updated, and then shared with the public. A Mobile Health Unit traveling to 14 libraries and present at public events (Farmington Fair) provided information to educate connectors and consumers about availability of "The Community Connector", a web-based resource and information directory website http://www.thecommunityconnector.org/

In response to questions about the contribution of coalition activities to streamlining access (see Table 6: Coalition Members' Perceptions of Progress in Streamlining Access below), virtually all (98%) coalition survey respondents report progress.
