following officers were elected: President, Debbie Stein; First Vice President, Dave Meyer; Second Vice President, Connie Davis; Secretary, Steve Hastalis; Treasurer, Carmen Dennis; and board members Mary Lou Grunwald, Debbie Pittman, Jemal Powell, and Syed Yusufuddin.  Following the meeting Dave Meyer pitched in as auctioneer for our annual Meal Appeal Auction.

Prior to the May chapter meeting we held our biannual tea for new and prospective members.  [Filling in for] Connie Davis, [visiting fellow Federationist Ameenah Lippold] presented a program called "What Would You Do If ..." which sparked some lively discussion about dealing with potentially awkward situations.

Our spring candy sale is in full swing, so if you have a taste for Mars Bars or Hersheys Almond, [hunt up] {seek out} a Chicago Chapter member.  Our active fundraising sends members to Washington Seminar and helps sustain a variety of programs at the chapter, state, and national level.

Six Chicago Chapter members walked the halls of Capitol Hill during Washington Seminar 2008.

The Chicago Chapter meets at 1 P.M. on the second Saturday of each month at the Exchequer Pub and Restaurant, 226 S. Wabash, Chicago.  Please join us as we work to change what it means to be blind in the Chicagoland area.

FERRIS WHEEL CHAPTER REPORT

By Cathy Randall

Bill Reif and I just made our presentation to secure more out-reach funding from the Prairieland United Way.  We hope to maintain or increase our allocation this year.  I would like to see other chapters apply for United Way grants in their communities.   The new ISVI superintendent, Reggie Clinton, spoke at our March meeting and pledged to help ISVI students attend the spring seminar, "Beyond Barriers."

Our April speaker was Illinois Newsline® coordinator David Meyer.   We plan to do spring leafleting and hold an educational restaurant chapter fundraiser.  For further information please call me at 217-243-3529.
