NOTES

  • 1.

    A Pass in any other subject at A-level may be substituted for Mathematics or Physics in any of the above schemes, providing that the subject substituted has been passed at GCE O-Level/ CSEC (CXC).

  • 2.

    A triple Major Associate Degree from Barbados Community College with a GPA greater than 3.5 is considered acceptable for entry into the M.B.B.S. and DDS programmes.

  • 3.

    Applicants to all programmes must submit an Autobiographical Statement (200 words) outlining the reasons for their career choice

Transfer applicants to Medical Sciences from the Faculties of Science & Agriculture and Pure & Applied Sciences of the UWI, may be considered on completion of the Preliminary and/or Introductory years of the programme.

BSc. Pharmacy

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Scheme A, Scheme B or Scheme C as in M.B.B.S. and D.D.S. above

Scheme D Passes in both units of Chemistry and One other from Biology, Zool- ogy, Physics or Mathematics at CAPE or GCE A-Level equivalent. CSEC (CXC)/O-Level Mathematics AND Physics is required.

NOTES:

  • 1.

    Candidates admitted under Scheme D are not permitted to trans- fer to other programmes within the Faculty.

  • 2.

    Passes in the above subjects taken in Preliminary and/or Intro- ductory examinations in the Faculty of Science & Agriculture, Pure & Applied Sciences, UWI, or equivalent examination(s) in institutions recognized by UWI, are acceptable.

3.

All B.Sc. Pharmacy applicants must submit a letter of accept- ance from their local Pharmacy Board in their country of resi- dence.

B.Sc. Nursing

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: The minimum requirements:

  • Passes in at least five (5) subjects at CSEC (CXC) General Proficiency (Grades I-III) or GCE O-Level or approved equivalents.

  • Passes in at least two (2) subjects at CAPE or GCE A- Level or approved equivalents.

Or

  • Passes in four (4) GCE subjects or approved equivalents, of which at least three (3) must be at the A-Level or equiva- lent.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates should:

    • (i)

      have a basic or general qualification in Nursing such as a certificate, diploma or Associate degree with a minimum passing grade of B or its approved equiva- lent

    • (ii)

      be a registered nurse

    • (iii)

      have a minimum of five (5) years post-registration experience as a practising nurse.

  • Candidates with certificates, diplomas or Associate de- grees with a grade lower than the approved grade, upon recommendation from the registration body or equiva- lent authority, if approved for entry, will be required to write a challenge examination.

  • Candidates with additional post-basic qualifications in Nursing from programmes offered by UWI, or other rec- ognized tertiary level institutions may be considered for admission on a preferential basis, but must have obtained a minimum grade of B in major course components of their post-basic training.

  • Provisional acceptance may be offered in the case of other entry requirements subject to the approval of an Advi- sory Committee.
