SCHOLARSHIPS & BURSARIES
The University of the West Indies admin- isters a number of University Scholar- ships and Bursaries, as well as other scholarships, exhibitions and bursaries from individual Governments, private or- ganizations and individuals. These awards are available to students who are nationals of CARICOM countries which contribute to the University’s budget and who are accepted to pursue full-time degree programmes. The awards vary in value and criteria for eligibility, and are usually awarded on an annual ba- sis.
REFUND OF PASSAGE
First Passage/Return Passage A candidate residing in a contributing Commonwealth Caribbean territory who, having satisfied the normal Univer- sity matriculation requirements, has been accepted for registration as a full-time student in an undergraduate or post- graduate programmes leading to a de- gree, diploma or certificate of The Uni- versity of the West Indies will be provided with a free passage on first coming to The University and on completion of his/ her course. Such passage includes bag- gage allowance of the cost of 10 kilos overweight.
GENERAL INFORMATION – ALL CAMPUSES
Opportunities for exchange are also available at other Universities in the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom and the non-Commonwealth Caribbean. Credits gained through the Study Abroad/Exchange Programme are applied to the UWI degree.
A wide variety of students’ organizations and clubs form a vital part of student life at the UWI. These include Debating Society, Language Club, Drama and Dance societies to name a few.

The UWI encourages student involvement in sporting activities and the Offices of Student Serv- ices and Sport & Physical Education run pro- grammes designed to help students develop their individual potential. Sports activities are ar- ranged both at the campus as well as the inter- campus level.

The Guild of Students, the recognised Associa- tion of students, has student representatives on major campus and university bodies.
Citizens of non-Commonwealth Countries must obtain a valid Student visa prior to entry into any UWI Campus Country (Barbados, Jamaica or Trinidad & Tobago). Such persons should make their requests at the nearest Diplomatic Mission or Consular Office representing the relevant country.
