LABORATORY PROCEDURE:

1.Complete the lab exercises (the handouts will be posted online, and it is your responsibility to download them before class).                       

2.No student is allowed to remove materials from the classroom at any time.

3.End of class procedures:

STOP ALL WORK AT 4:00pm AND CLEAN UP.

a.Put away all materials in the proper place.

b.DO NOT remove materials from the classroom.                           

Any student not following these rules will lose points from their total at the end of the semester.

LABORATORY NOTEBOOK

1.

Lab notebooks will be collected and graded at the end of the semester with checks during the semester.

2.

Each lab must be recorded in your lab book in the proper order

3.

Lab notebooks must be quad ruled composition notebooks, at least 100 sheets, preferably 9¾”X7½”.  All lab work must be completed directly into the notebook during the lab time.  The instructor will initial your notebook at the end of the lab time.

Lab notebook format

a.

Number each page.

b.

Save the first two sheets to be the table of contents.

c.

Write your name on the front cover and the table of contents.

d.

Include tabs on each conclusion page.

5.

Individual lab format

a.

Each lab must be titled and dated on the top.

b.

The first pages are devoted to the theory behind the lab.  Take notes on the introductory lecture and label this section THEORY.

c.

The next page is devoted to the purpose.  Write the purpose of the lab in your own words and label this section PURPOSE.

d.

The next pages are devoted to recording data.  Record all data in your lab notebook.  Use the table format at the end of each lab as a guide to keep your data organized.  Make sure to include diagrams of the equipment and setup.  Label this section DATA.

e.

The next pages are devoted to calculations.  Use your data to perform the calculations and exercises in the lab manual and given by the instructor.  Do your own work.  Include all graphs.  Be sure to label the axes, specify units, and title your graphs.  Label this section CALCULATIONS.

f.

At the end of the lab, briefly explain its relevance and how the data and calculations pertain to the introductory lecture.  Add a tab to this page for quick access.  Label this section CONCLUSIONS.

Any student not following these rules will lose points from their total at the end of the semester.
