Function of progesterone

  1) On the uterus

  a)          It maintain secretary activity of the uterus during luteal phase. The highly secreted endometrium containing large amounts of stored nutrients for implantation of fertilized ovum.

  b)             It maintain pregnancy by raising the uterine threshold to contractile stimuli.

Also it inhibit T lymphocytes cell mediated responses.

2)   On the Fallopian tube

  Progesterone promote secretory changes in the mucosal lining of the

  Fallopian tube which is necessary for nutrition of gamete.
