Written and Oral Conventions Standard 1.0

The spelling component of the VESD curriculum has been divided into the following categories and articulated in grades 1-6. Students are expected to know and use these in their writing as appropriate to their grade level.

  • 1.

    Spell grade level core words

  • 2.

    Spell grade level priority words correctly

in all writing

3.Recognize misspelled words in written text

  • 4.

    Know and use common spelling rules

  • 5.

    Spell:

    • commonly misspelled words

    • homophones

    • look alike words
