The principal objectivesof the project are to develop an opera-
tional, day-to-daycapability,using a mix of manual and computer-
assisted remote sensing analysis procedures;to inventoryand monitor
natural resourceswithin Texas; to developand integrate remote sensing
technologyinto the Texas National Resources Inventoryand Monitoring
System (alreadyin use); and to test and evaluate the resulting expanded
informationsystem in various disciplineareas using the on-going
managementrequirementsof the different state agenciesas the accep- tance criterion.
The system will first be applied to the Texas Coastal Zone.
Subsequentphases will concentrateon various applicationcategories
throughoutthe state: the forest regionsof East Texas, the water
resourcesof the High Plains, the agriculturalregions of Central
Texas, and the rangelandsof West Texas.
