SHUTTLE FLIGHT DIRECTORSNAMED BY NASA
Flight directors for the first manned Shuttle orbital flight have been named by the NationalAeronauticsand Space Administration at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
The new flight directorsare Neil B. Hutchinson,Charles R. Lewis, and Donald R. Puddy, all of the JSC Flight OperationsDirec-
torate. They will be responsiblefor planningand directing the activitiesof the Mission Control Center during Shuttle real-time
Their responsibilitie will include the integrationof inputs from all elementsof NASA, contractorand the scientificcommunities.
Hutchinsonwill be responsiblefor planningand directing all activitiesassociatedwith the Shuttle ascent phase, Lewis the on-
orbit phase and Puddy the entry phase of the Orbiter. Hutchinson,Lewis and Puddy were flight directors during
Apollo and Skylab missions. The first flight of the Shuttle is scheduled for early in
1979 and will be launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida with control of the flight conducted from Houston.
