Those attending included unit members, new members, prospective members and IRSPA Officers, Gary Asto , Co-President of the Webster County Unit introduced IRSPA Officers John and Beverly McCartney, IRSPA Co-Presidents, Alice Gratias, Bob Swanson, Dawn Rogers, and Eileen Eckrich who all gave short presenta- tions.

Don Cook, Webster County Membership Chai , welcomed the 32 new members to the September meet- ing. Delpha Hoffman, a member of the Book Commit- tee and Chairman of the Smelzer Charitable Trust Board spoke of an exciting collaborative effort between the two groups. They will sponsor a progressive luncheon in the Oak Hill district with all proceeds going toward the book fund. The fund is dedicated to providing books as Christmas presents to deserving children. The Smelzer Fund will underwrite the cost of the meal that will be served at the Larry and Donna Mitchell home, the Vin- cent House, and the Ann Smelzer house in September.


The Jackson County Retired School Personnel Association held their first meeting of the year on August 6 at St. Marks Fellowship Hall in Maquoketa, with new retirees attending. Thirty- four were in attendance.

A note was read from the 2010 scholarship recipi- ent from Bellevue High School, Anthony Schiffman,

August and January birthdays were acknowl- edged and also several anniversaries were announced.

The program for the day was QUILTS, given by Mary Rankin. She hand quilts all her work at home. Marilyn gives some of her quilts as gifts, enters some in contests, and also sells many. Her advice is to never dry clean quilts.

Members were reminded to turn in their volunteer hours this month. New program books were passed out and thanks were given to all who helped with the pro- gram books.

Members were reminded of the IRSPA Annual Meeting in Council Bluffs on October 6-7. Next meeting will be September 3 at Jan Grays farm near Miles.
