By: Tina Teague, Senior Convention Sales Manager
Five members of the Amarillo Con- vention & Visitor Council staff hosted an intimate client apprecia- tion event July 15th at Perry’s Steakhouse in Austin. Meeting planners in attendance included some who currently book meet- ings in Ama- rillo as well as some who have not yet booked meetings in Amarillo but
are considering that possibility for the future. Staff in attendance in- cluded Jerry Holt, Mindy Bradley, Tina Teague, Tiffany Redinger and Rick Matchett.
Why is shopping local important? When you spend $1 in the local economy, you also pay 8.25 cents in sales tax. Of that money, two pennies stay here locally to help keep your property taxes low, fund economic development and jobs, and it pays for the services you enjoy from the city.
The city of Amarillo depends on several sources of revenue to operate. The largest amount of income comes from two areas: sales tax and property taxes. Both of these revenue sources need a healthy local economy.
That money helps pay for services you depend on, like fire and police pro- tection, parks and recreation, paved roads, and water and sewer service.
