Summarize of the Questionnaire
for NGOs in new EU member states on public health issues!
The aim of the questionnaire
Public health as one of the EU policies appeared in 1997 within the Amsterdam treaty. The Article 152 in Amsterdam treaty states that health protection should be ensured within European level, but member states are responsible for health care in national level. Taking into account that public health is new political issue, that’s why the implementation process of it is different within the countries.

Short introduction of the project
The questionnaire is distributed within the project “Development of national platforms on public health in 10 new EU member states”, financed by the European Commission. The project is implemented by The Civic Alliance of Latvia, which is the partner organisation to European Public Health alliance. The aim of the project is to increase the participation of NGOs in decision-making processes in national and in EU level by developing NGO networks on public health issues.
The questionnaire was sent out to the organisations which have expressed interest for cooperation within the project. Consequently the form was sent out to 16 organisations from which 6 organisations from 5 countries replied.
