Seminar on ‘Strengthening Science and Maths Education’

We organized a seminar on ‘Strengthening Science and Maths Education’ on 26th February 2008.  Distinguished participants included 8 College Principals, 2 School Principals, 24 Teacher Educators, 16 School Teachers and 61 pupil teachers from different colleges. In his inaugural address, Dr. Kanwarjit Singh, DPI (Colleges Punjab), himself an eminent educator, strongly advocated strengthening of Science and Maths Education for national and social development. He laid special emphasis on popularizing Science and Maths education in Punjab.

Experts

Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Gulati Sharma, Joint Director, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh, spoke on ‘Use of Community Resources for Strengthening Science and Maths Education’. She laid stress on linking society and classroom with each other. Resources of society must be utilized to popularize Science and Maths education in Punjab.

Mrs. Shashi Banerjee, Principal, Bhawan Vidyalaya, Panchkula delivered a talk on ‘Giving Meaning to Science and Maths Learning’ by using illustrations. She demonstrated with different examples how simple things could be used to clear concepts like cylinder and related properties.
