The deeper conceptual understanding on technology is becoming more important in the future. When the world becomes more technical there must be those who build and author the technology. The technology education in primary schools may give a good starting point to ensure the resources of the technologically capable individuals. In addition the use of wireless terminals like mobile phones and palm computers will become more common in education. Wireless terminals are flexible to use and they enable real time and place independence. It is important to study what kind of methods we can use to teach the usage of mobile phones, because in the future we can adapt these methods to terminals that will be used in wireless learning environments.

In the utilisation of mobile phones it is important to recognise that learning to use mobile phone is not the same process for all. Individuals have different types of previous cognitions that influence the way he / she learns the usage of the mobile phone. In this research two theory based teaching phases were completed. The first phase was based on Finnish curriculum and the second one was based on the analogy between technology and human concepts. The phases were carried out in primary school, but they would be suitable to other levels of education as well. Analogies were mainly used in teaching science, and the usefulness of the TWA model in information and communication technologies was studied. In this paper the researchers map the paths in the mobile phones menu structure used by participants. The meaning of mapping is to locate the problem points of the menu structure. On the basis of these results the efficiency of teaching phases can be evaluated. On top of that some assumptions can be made about the need for improvement of the user interface.


Η βαθύτερη εννοιολογική κατανόηση της τεχνολογίας γίνεται ολοένα και περισσότερο αναγκαία στο μέλλον. Ενώ ο κόσμος γίνεται ολοένα και πιο τεχνικός, είναι συνεχώς πιο απαραίτητοι εκείνοι που κατασκευάζουν και διαχειρίζονται την τεχνολογία. Η εκπαίδευση στην τεχνολογία στα δημοτικά σχολεία ίσως είναι ένα καλό σημείο εκκίνησης για να εξασφαλίσουμε τους πόρους για τεχνολογικά ικανά άτομα. Επιπλέον, η χρήση ασύρματων συσκευών, όπως τα κινητά τηλέφωνα και οι υπολογιστές παλάμης, θα διαδίδεται συνεχώς στην εκπαίδευση. Οι ασύρματες συσκευές είναι πιο ευέλικτες στη χρήση και προσφέρουν ανεξαρτησία τόπου και χρόνου. Είναι σημαντικό να μελετήσουμε τι είδους μεθόδους μπορούμε να χρησιμοποιήσουμε για να διδάξουμε τη χρήση των κινητών τηλεφώνων, γιατί στο μέλλον μπορούμε να υιοθετήσουμε αυτές τις μεθόδους σε ασύρματες συσκευές, που θα χρησιμοποιηθούν σε ασύρματα μαθησιακά περιβάλλοντα.
