7.

Accidents

7.1 Inert Gas Issue.

The committee took note of the report and agreed that further investigation should be undertaken regarding the supply of inert gas from the shore regarding smaller existing ships that cannot retro-fit, and particular attention should be made to the “USCG inert gas from shore report” to establish what may be of assistance to the INTERTANKO position within the report.

The committee requested the INTERTANKO research section to produce a 2nd complimentary graph of the “accidents and explosions graph“ which simply focuses on the period since the accidents/incidents have started to increase. i.e. a detailed summary of the period since 1st quarter 2006 to current time to enable a more detailed focus of the trend

7.2 IIG Human Factors Task Group

The committee noted the report and the draft submission and agreed that the sea time requirements should be reduced from 12 months to 6 months and that Intensive short sea trading should be taken into account.

Action Point No.9 The secretary to ensure the views of the committee are reflected in the IIG submission accordingly

7.3 Bottle neck Group Report (Re-Review)

The committee reviewed the report and agreed that several of these concerns could be incorporated into the inert gas revision work and addressed through IMO via subsequent proposed changes on inert gas.

No other matters were arising

DATE AND PLACE OF NEXT MEETING

The committee agreed that the next meeting should be in Panama on the 9th April 2008 and that there should be a half day chemical seminar held in Panama on the day before on the 8th April 2008 commencing with a buffet lunch at 12:00.
