      Issue: a student whose behavior/actions are reported in an incident report and then reprinted in the student newspaper: What policies exist that explain about policies dealing with information written in police reports, and whether or not that information is protected?

      • i.

        Writing cryptic reports does not help with judicial/conduct officers. Never put more information in writing that you would want to be released, and only write facts.

      • ii.

        Confer with security departments on proper reportage channels and release of information.

        • 1.

          “Freedom of information act and newspapers have the right to request information”. Security cannot refuse requests, but if roles are clearly defined and the campus knows about current processes it makes harder to release personally identifying information.

        • 2.

          Possible suggestions include, when writing incident reports send the report to the judicial officers and not security if possible.
