participation of the California State Fire Marshal and/or the Fresno Fire Department is
needed to ensure fire code compliance is maintained.
A literature review, survey, and two personal interviews provided sufficient
information to suggest a fire and life safety program should be established that reduces
the risk of a fatal fire at the CSUF dormitories. The following objectives are
recommended in order to support this program.
Regular communication between the Fresno Fire Department and the administrative staff of the CSUF residence halls should be maintained through the Fresno Fire Department Liaison Officer.
Annual code enforcement inspections of the CSUF residence halls should be conducted through cooperative efforts of the Deputy California State Fire Marshal serving the Fresno area, the Fresno Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau, and the CSUF residence hall staff.
The installation of a complete automatic fire sprinkler system should receive the highest priority with regards to any planned improvements to the dormitories at CSUF.
An annual pre-fire plan and survey of the CSUF residence halls should be conducted by the three closest fire companies of the Fresno Fire Department with the participation of the California State Police Department to maintain effective emergency response.
