This chart represents only six of the 36 dormitory fires that received major news attention between 1979 and 1998. Johns Hopkins, University of Buffalo, Ohio State, Drexel, Rutgers, Columbia, and George Washington all suffered fires in student housing complexes during this time. Berkeley experienced three separate fires during this period. Unfortunately, students at some of our most prestigious universities have suffered from structural fire loss.

  • Combustible Finishes and Furnishings

  • Fire Extended Upward

  • Killed 5 Students and Injured One

What started as a celebration ended as a memorial. This incident included several common factors that will be discussed in this program.
