FRESNO FIRE DEPARTMENT

DORMITORY FIRE SAFETY LESSON PLAN

Inspections

  • Seton Hall Lacked Inspections

  • California State Fire Marshal is Authority

  • Unable to Conduct Inspections due to Staff

  • Annual Inspections by Staff are Important

  • Fresno Fire Department Can Help

Analysis of the Seton Hall fire revealed inspections were lacking prior to the fire. The State Fire Marshal is understaffed to cover all buildings in California. There are currently only 22 deputies covering the entire state. They are responsible for all state owned buildings, schools in unincorporated areas, hospitals, jails and prisons in California. This workload is overwhelming. Hospitals may be reassigned to the Department of Health Services. This will free up time for occupancies like CSUF dorms. Until that time, we need to continue annual inspections by the staff. Feel free to call on Fresno Fire Department for assistance.

  • Do Not Return to the Building!

Consider using a cell phone once outside to dial 911. Two Fresno fire stations are nearby Station 11 – One engine and one ladder truck Station 6 – One engine The 1st Alarm will include five fire engines, two ladder trucks, and one chief. Subsequent alarms can be requested. The Fresno Fire Department maintains 21 fire companies throughout the city.
