Regional Groups, Membership Development and National Conference Kevin Howard OAM JP. Deputy Chairman ( Country) & Regional Groups Coordinator
Another year is under way and the first meeting of Regional representatives was held on 8th March. It was obvious from the individual Regional reports that members can look forward to another successful year throughout the State. The variety and number of events in planning is quite amazing and Regions are to be commended for not only developing programs for members but branching out into the wider community with projects aimed specifically at the younger generation. Projects such as inter school debating, school leadership programs and scholarship projects are either already established or will commence this year.
As I have said many times, Regions are the lifeblood of the Association, and projects such as these are demonstrating our leadership role, which at the same time is providing members and the Association with the opportunity to identify more closely with their local community.
Western Suburbs Region
A recent very well attended meeting in the Western Suburbs elected John Nicol OAM as Chairman, Vance Hilton OAM, Deputy Chairman, John Ravenhall AM, Secretary and Alan Eldridge OAM as a Committee member. Each of these members is very busy with their own personal interests so a very big “Thank You” to all for accepting a role on the Committee. The planning of a calendar of events for the ensuing year is already well under way, so that members can look forward to some entertaining activities.
Australian of the Year for Annual Dinner at Mornington in October
Chairman Brian Stahl OAM has announced that Simon Mckeon Australian of the Year for 2010 will be the guest speaker at the Annual Dinner and AGM for the Mornington Peninsula lGroup on Friday 21st October 2011.Booking details will be advised close to the event.
The contribution of Tony Smith OAM to the management of the membership records is already most apparent and all Regions and the State Branch are most appreciative of the regular, up to date flow of information. Colleen Thurger (National Membership Secretary) and Tony have developed an excellent working relationship which is reflected in the constant two-way flow of information. Please support Tony by ensuring that all matters relating to membership go directly to him, so that we maintain a single line of communication with Canberra. Thanks Tony.
National Director’s Meeting
Thanks to Chairman Don and the State Branch Committee for having given me the opportunity to represent Victoria at the meeting of the National Directors held in Hobart prior to the Annual Conference. Not only did it give me the opportunity to meet the other members of the National Committee but it also provided the opportunity to participate in what was a most informative meeting.
It was clear that the system of Regional development and the operation of Regions in Victoria is setting standards that are recognised and applauded by the National Committee. Thanks again to all Regional Groups and their leadership teams.
In conclusion may I encourage all members to become involved with their Regional Groups by attending and participating in your local Group’s activities. The Regional Committees are working very hard so please support them. May all members have a most enjoyable and rewarding year.
