ATHLETIC DIRECTOR SUMMER DUTIES

1.

Check eligibility for fall sports as well as physical exams for fall sport participants

2.

Send scheduling reminders to school and officials for fall sports (VGS B.P. 7:300 – R)

3.

Be available to administration and coaches for conferences to discuss related issues

4.

Summer mail

5.

Inventory all athletic equipment through the athletic director’s office

6.

Make sure that schedules are ready to send out to appropriate school and community personnel

7.

Calendars completed for quick reference, files cleaned and contracts rechecked

8.

Handbook revisions finalized for upcoming school year distribution

9.

Conference with coaches regarding any rule changes, policy changes, date changes, equipment, and other changes that will occur for the upcoming year

10.

Summer gym schedules from all coaches to be worked into a master schedule for redistribution                                 to coaches and administration (VGS B.P. 7:300 – R)

11.

Report on the condition of the facilities for any improvements that must be made for the following school year

12.

Communicate with extra-curricular committee, school board, administration, and other appropriate community groups regarding the status of the athletic program

Head Basketball Duties

Pre-Season

1.

Check equipment and inventory and order needed items that are approved through the athletic director’s office

2.

Meetings with staff – directions, guidelines, organization, personnel, goals, and objectives

3.

Meetings with prospective players regarding expectations, procedure, rules, and goals

4.

Individual meetings with prospective players regarding team rules and expectations

5.

Hand-out rules sheets, practice uniforms, phone trees, and other organizational items.  Order team shoes after a consensus is gathered by all participants (if team shoes are desired).

     Season

1.

Daily practice on days that school is in session (coach’s discretion is taken into account)

2.

Daily practice schedule distributed to athletic director, coaches, players, parents, administrators and other related school personnel (approved by athletic director), set bus departure times

3.

Present the athletic director the names of all participants for eligibility purposes

4.

Make sure that all participants are eligible regarding physical examinations

5.

File information packets on all participants that contain phone numbers, addresses and emergency numbers etc.

6.

Hand out game uniforms by checking off who has been issued what

7.

Keep game and season statistics throughout the season

8.

Supervise and manage the facilities for practice and events (may include laundry).

9.

Accommodate all athletic injuries by taping, wrapping, icing, and or other non-emergency treatments

10.

Before practice and after practice supervision

11.

Keep locker rooms clean both home and away.  Keep equipment in good condition.

12.

Athletic facility set-up and take-down for athletic practices and home contests

13.

Consistently report to appropriate news media regarding scores and stats

14.

Be prepared to handle player and parent problems

15.

Conference with the athletic director regularly regarding issues and concerns, and decisions made
