General Information To Coaches
Major ordering of athletic equipment will be through the budget process. Coaches should turn in all orders to the Athletic Director by April 15th. All major orders shall constitute acquiring at least two bids before turning in to Athletic Director. Final figures will be turned in to the Administration by May 1st.
All emergency items must be approved through the Athletic Director. All purchase orders must include brand name, price, and purpose of item to be approved by Administration. Any tickets or statements must be turned in to the business manager.
Uniform Ordering: All uniform purchases must be approved by the athletic director and Administration. A purchase rotation that has been established for each sport shall be maintained and implemented for future uniform needs.
**Care and maintenance of uniforms is absolutely essential. Uniforms are one of the largest expenditures of an athletic program. Coaches, players and parent’s of players are responsible for the upkeep of all uniforms issued.
Any problems and or concerns concerning the coaches and players should be reported to the respective coaches prior to being reported to the athletic director. If a concern cannot be resolved through these steps, the athletic director should be reported to. In that event, the athletic director will address the concern with the appropriate coaches and administrators. It should be noted that the VGS administration does have an open door policy regarding any issues of concern that parents may have. Communicating concerns with coaches first (within this chain of command) may very well provide a win-win situation for all involved.
All before and half-time activities should be cleared with the athletic director and or the principal before the day of the contest. A first come, first serve facilitation shall be implemented by the athletic director and or principal.
During school hours, an approved personal day must be used to attend a clinic. While it is strongly encouraged to take advantage of such professional development opportunities, the district will not provide any financial assistance when attending any clinics throughout the year, unless otherwise approved by the administration.
Rules meetings in each sport are an IHSJAA requirement. One coach from each sport (preferably the head coach) is required to attend an IHSA rules interpretation meeting. The district will not pay gas mileage for this requirement.
