Findlay Dunachie was born in China of missionary stock in 1928 and came to Britain at the end of the war. He took a degree with Honours in Zoology at Glasgow University and worked after that as a technician and research assistant in the Royal Technical College that later became the University of Strathclyde. He has published papers in marine biology, pesticide toxicity and parasitology. He is married to a biology teacher and lives in Glasgow.
