Surrey Trading Standards is an intelligence led Service and the post holder acts as the statutorily qualified Accredited Financial Investigator, researching and investigating the financial background of individuals found to be in breach of consumer protection legislation. Providing expert advice, presenting complex financial evidence and exercising all the relevant legal processes concerned in the formal confiscation and forfeiture of the proceeds of crime. These duties will be carried out in accordance with the departmental service plan and the overall policy of the Council.
1To Act as the properly qualified Accredited Financial Investigator working within the Trading Standards Service, Improvement and Development Team. Plan, conduct, complete and report on financial investigations and ensure the recovery of financial and other assets gained through illegal and dishonest activity within Surrey.
2To develop and establish systems and procedures for the effective and efficient conduct of Financial Investigations.
3To act as the Service’s lead officer for Financial Investigation and to represent the Service at local, regional or national level as required.
4Subject to arrangements and proper direction, duties of the post holder may include working with other council services and external agencies such as other Local Authority Trading Standards Departments, the Police, HMRC and financial institutions.
5To establish and maintain liaison with trade and consumer organisations, Central Government departments, courts and other bodies as appropriate to the post.
