REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS Environmental Master Plan and Design of Rams Head Parking Garage, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA Principal-in Charge and Design Engineer Environmental Master Plan for the historic UVa campus, including emphasis on integrating water management with landscape to restore the historic beauty of the campus. Work included developing a stormwater model and GIS to evaluate estimated existing and future stormwater volumes and pollutant loads generated. Model tested various BMPs and recommended land use changes to evaluate these recommendations in terms of stormwater volume, pollutant reduction, and cost. U.S. EPA SWMM model was used to evaluate campus infrastructure conditions, identify areas of potential flooding, and develop a “decentralized” stormwater management plan responding to local ordinances, environmental principles, and local flooding problems.

Environmental Master Plan, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC Principal-in Charge and Design Engineer for 650 acre Environmental Master Plan, including the development of sustainable stormwater management approaches and detailed hydrologic modeling. Also provided environmental engineering for the Ram’s Head project includes a 700-car green-roofed parking garage, new recreational facilities, new dining facilities, and a restored sports field. Using Green Building Design Principles the footprint of the building area was dramatically reduced, protecting surrounding land. The green roof design holds rainwater on the roof to meet irrigation needs; adjacent hillside drainage is collected and infiltrated into the substantial stormwater storage/ infiltration bed located beneath the athletic field. The project has been submitted for certification as at the LEED-Certified level.
