BLACK COLLEGE FAIR
FEBRUARY 24, 2010
The Cypress College division of Student Support Services in cooperation with the Financial Aid Office hosted the 3rd Black College Fair at Cypress College on February 24, 2010. College affordability and access to the college opportunity were the key messages communicated to students as part of this event. A resource fair, campus tour, and print materials were provided to each participant to engage their thinking about postsecondary educational opportunities. Students began the day by working in groups to generate ideas and possible answers to the important question: Why should I go to college?
Approximately 100 high school students from Lakewood and Millikan High Schools were in attendance at this year’s event. After the morning workshops and tours, students enjoyed lunch while having an opportunity to visit with over 30 representatives from various instructional and student services programs. Additionally, students were able to join the Cypress College community in celebration of our “Dancing through History” concert in the Main Theater as part of our campus Black History Month activities.
Attendees at our Black College Fair will receive a personalized invitation to our Parent Night event on April 21, 2010. Students and their parents will be encouraged to attend to receive additional information about our programs and services.
