  • Carry out vessel audits (Oil Tankers, Survey Vessels, Supply Vessels, ERRVs and Anchor Handling Vessels) for clients and submit detailed reports.

  • Carry out investigations for clients into the causes of marine incidents such as machinery failure and prepare detailed reports covering findings.

  • Oversee the loading and sea-fastening arrangements of heavy lifts such as subsea manifolds, prior to transportation by offshore support vessels.

  • Assist in other specialised marine projects such as mooring system design and installation, mooring analysis, mooring deployment studies, extended well test projects as well as general marine consultancy work.

1980 - 1996

Marine Deck Officer.

  • Career at sea commenced as a deck cadet with Shell Tankers UK Ltd in 1980.

  • Employed on a variety of ship types e.g. oil tankers, bulk carriers, irradiated nuclear fuel carriers, ro-ro’s, container ships, passenger ferries and offshore support vessels.

  • Master Mariner's qualification obtained in 1991 and have sailed as Chief Officer on a number of vessels.

  • Principal areas of responsibility have included navigation, voyage planning, communications (fax & satellite systems), maintenance & inspection of fire fighting and lifesaving equipment, supervising and instructing deck crew, controlling ship's budget, planning and supervising the loading/unloading of various ship types and understudying the Master.

  • Last commercial seagoing position - Chief Officer on a P & O Ferry running between Liverpool and Dublin.
