ATV Drip Torch Operator (ATVF) Field Evaluation
Note to Evaluator: A scale of 1 through 5 will be used to identify proficiency in each area:
1 = Weak, 2 = Poor, 3 = Satisfactory, 4 = Very Good, 5 = Outstanding. N/A means trainee was not evaluated in area or Not Applicable. All blanks must be filled in..
Does the ATV Drip Torch Operator :
Have the proper PPE
Protective helmet DOT approved
Fire pants and shirt
Comments: Attitude, Technical -Verbal Skills, etc.
Have the proper communications equipment.
Correctly install drip torch on ATV.
Install other safety equipment on ATV (fire extinguisher, hand tool, etc.)
Perform a pre-burn inspection of ATV and drip torch – completes checklists.
Correctly fuels drip torch.
Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures:
ATV stalled, stuck, or rolled
ATV Drip Torch Operator (ATVF) Certification and Training
Certification and training for the ATVF shall consist, at a minimum, a 1- day session on the ATV Drip Torch firing equipment, utilizing the BLM ATV Drip Torch Module and a “live-run” field exercise. The field exercise shall consist of a briefing to the Burn Boss and all personnel on torch capabilities and operations and conducting torch fueling, test procedures, and torch firing operations. A copy of this ATVF Field Evaluation must be submitted to the appropriate agency supervisor, and a copy placed in the individuals fire qualifications file.
