FANTASY AND FUGUE BWV 904 SATB SAX QUARTET

GALLOPING THUNDER SATB OR AATB SAX QUARTET SCORE & PARTS

J.S. Bach; Arr. Olaf Mühlenhardt

Ed Harlow

The character of the Fantasia is serious and grave. Even the interludes, despite their lighter texture, maintain an overall contemplative character. Its concerto form is strictly symmetrical. The main theme appears four times: in a-minor, e-minor, d-minor and finally a-minor. Three interludes often employ only three parts and effectively contrast the full harmony of the main theme.

A Chinese styled barn burner for the advanced saxophone quartet. An intensely paced crowd pleaser with heated action for all the saxophones. With its showcase of technique and group cohesion, this is a great piece to cap a performance.

GLOBAL TOUR CLARINET QUARTET SCORE & PARTS

MA MÈRE L’OYE SATB SAX QUARTET SCORE & PARTS

Mike Curtis

Ravel; Arr. Christoph Enzel

“Global Tour is a journey through four of my favorite styles of music: funk, jazz, klezmer, and tango. As opposed to a commission or an idea from my publisher, this piece began without any preconception. A small germ of a funk phrase led to a finished tune, and somehow I thought to follow it with a breezy West-Coast jazz waltz.

With the addition of Abraham Goldfaden’s 1880 Jewish lullaby, Rozhinkes mit Mandlen, (Raisins with Almonds) I thought I had completed something called Funk, Jazz, and Klez, but in a midnight dream a propulsive tango theme to tag on clean jerked me out of bed!” Mike Curtis.

Ma Mère L’Oye, one of Ravel’s most well-known and most often- performed works, was originally conceived and written as a piano duet (1908) and later on arranged for orchestra (1911).

Inspired by the 17th century fairy tales penned by the French authors Charles Perrault (“Contes de ma mère l’oye”) and Marie Cathérine Aulnoy, Maurice Ravel created five dreamlike pieces full of beauty: “Pavane de la Belle au Bois Dormant” (“Pavane of the Sleeping Beauty”), “Petit Poucet” (“Little Tom Thumb”), “Laideronette, Impératrice des Pagodes” (“Little Ugly Girl, Empress of the Pagodas”), “Les Entretiens de la Belle et la Bête” (“Conversations of Beauty and the Beast”) as well as “Le Jardin Féerique” (“The Fairy Garden”). Some of the compositions are preceded by excerpts from the corresponding fairy tales.
