With the Lightning, Gordon led his team to back-to-back United States Amateur Championships.

Gordon grew up in Dallas, graduating from Lake Highlands High School. After high school, Gordon went on to Hardin Simmons University and then transferred to the University of South Carolina in Spartanburg. In 1997, Gordon received his B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of North Texas. After college, Gordon played professionally in the USL, where he led the league in goals in 1996.
