Strength and Conditioning Coach Fifth Season
2008 RED RAIDER SOCCER
Jennifer Marlar joined the Texas Tech Athletic Department in 2005 and is beginning her fourth season as athletic trainer for women’s soccer.
Katie Munger is in her fifth season working with the team as the strength and conditioning coach.
Marlar graduated from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center with a master’s in athletic training in 2005. Before attend- ing Tech, she attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, and received a bachelor of science in 2002.
Marlar holds a national certification for athletic training and as a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) through the National Acad- emy of Sports Medicine.
Marlar, a Dallas native, is also an adjunct professor for the Masters of Athletic Training program in the TTU Health Sciences Center. She is also in charge of the student trainer program and serves as an advisor for the Athletic Trainer Student Organization.
Strength and conditioning is a year-round commitment for the Red Raider soccer players. The soccer strength and conditioning program is designed to develop the team’s overall athleticism by working with the team daily to develop a solid base of strength, fit- ness, agility, flexibility, footwork and power. Training also includes mental toughness and nutritional guidance to maximize their on- field performance.
In addition to working with the soccer program, Munger also works with the volleyball, tennis, softball, women’s basketball and baseball teams at Texas Tech. Munger is a certified Sports Perfor- mance Nutritionist (SPN) and a certified Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCC).
Marlar is engaged to Billy Whitehead, who is an athletic trainer for the Colorado Rockies. The couple will wed in December 2008 in Jamaica.
Prior to working at Tech, she served as assistant women’s bas- ketball coach at Lubbock Christian University, where she also designed the strength and conditioning program for the Lady Chaps.
Assistant Director/Marketing Second Season
As a collegiate player, Munger was a two-time NAIA All-America honorable mention selection as a basketball player for William Jewell College. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from William Jewell in 2003 and completed her master’s in secondary education from LCU in 2004.
Munger is married to Texas Tech athletic trainer Larry Munger.
Garrett Tressler begins his third season as Assistant Director of Marketing at Texas Tech and his second in charge of the promo- tion of Red Raider soccer.
Tressler joined the Texas Tech External Operations staff as an in- tern back in 2002 while completing his master’s degree in sports management. He is primarily responsible for the coordination and execution of Raider Alley during football season, group tickets for all sports and the marketing and promotion for soccer and base- ball.
Tressler earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Western New Mexico in 2002.
