  • Aspergillus fumigatus characterized in section by septate, uniform fungal hyphae (image on left) accounts for 75% of cases

  • Zygomycetes (Absida, Mucor, Rhizopus, Mortierella) non-septate, variable thichness hyphae in section (image on right) account for 25%

  • Pseudallescheria boydii and yeasts (Candida, Torulopis) are considered rare causes of mycotic abortion in cattle

  • Invasion of blood vessels by fungal elements (asterix) = consistent finding
