Using Automatic Analysis

Introduction

The system navigator allows you to easily explore your performance environment manually. EPILOG provides another facility, known as automatic analysis, which can automate much of this process. This is done by combining EPILOGs exception-filtering capabilities with a table that you define. The table is called an automatic analysis matrix, or A-matrix.

Automatic analysis matrix

The automatic analysis matrix is a table you use to tell EPILOG which resource panels you consider relevant to each type of bottleneck. For example, if the main cause of poor response time is database I/O waits, you might want to see the IMS device statistics (RDEV), the IMS database statistics (RDAS), and possibly the IMS DMB pool statistics (RDMP). You assign each A-matrix a 17 character name. EPILOG prefixes the name with an at-sign (@) and keeps it as a member of the RKANPAR dataset. A sample A-matrix called DEFAULT is provided as shown in Figure 36.
